@andrestaltz One World Schoolhouse is a good read on this about the beginnings of Khan Academy, alongside a healthy dose of history, neuroscience, and educational philosophy.

Khan touches on the idea of arbitrarily chunking knowledge into subjects (which i came to think of in relation to your mention of linearization) and contrasts that with the fact that chemistry is a zoomed-out level of physics, and subjects like learning calc in math class could be made more fun if combined with physics. Actually, not only more fun, but made more durable and likely to remain in memory for longer due to more synaptic connections being formed (from seeing the links between subjects, as well as those links being more meaningful - which further increases the likelihood of a durable synaptic connection).
