In 2015 the average rate of C-sections in #puertorico was 47%, with some hospitals having nearly 70% (source). It's infuriating to hear women planning their C-sections to coincide with particular dates. I bite my tongue, I'd need more than 9 months to change their minds. Even more infuriating to read that Puerto Rico had 800+ licensed midwives in the 1960's, and 0 now.
We try so hard to be more American than the USA.

Timezone appropriate greetings, scuttlefriends. It's Saturday in #puertorico. I enjoy Saturdays, because I can rest a bit, and the university radio station has a lot of jazz on rotation. I really like Soul Clave, a bit of what happens when Harlem met Spanish Harlem. The DJ, Luis Gallardo, has a mixcloud with a bunch of the programs if you want to listen.
Saturday afternoons we also have Rumba Africana, which is afro-caribbean/latin inspired African music, which is really meta. Errol Montes Pizarro has spent the last 36 years studying this genre and has a book coming out. To listen you'll need to tune to wrtu Saturdays at 4:00 PM AST (12:00 UTC), or Tuesdays at 1:00 PM AST (09:00 UTC), I can't find recordings of his shows.
