I got this image before going to sleep: I saw hundreds of solarpunks with solar bikes, fitted with mesh networking infrastructure connected with SSB, pedaling to meet waves of migrants and providing ad hoc communication infrastructure, food and bikes, and helping with coordination.

Good vision! Hope it comes to pass.

I'm 77. You're sure this is generational and not something else? I do see some changes in newer generations re comfort in diversity, there's also incels and young MAGAs and BREXiters etc.

The institutions that will welcome us are those for which the resources available will diminish at the same time the scale of the problems they have to tackle will increase.

I can see those kinds of institutions welcoming SSB-style communication technologies.

I am afraid I was thinking of the dominant institutions, who may increasingly think of the kinds of institutions you mentioned as excess baggage. But I do like the message of the book you recommended in your subsequent comment.
